Make rugs, wall art, pillows, and many other forms of textile art.
A tufting gun is a tool commonly used to automate the tufting process, more specifically in the realm of rug making. The yarn is fed through a hollow needle, that penetrates the stretched cloth backing for a modifiable length. They can usually create two types of rugs, a cut or loop pile.
1. Prepare the frame : leave open the clips on the back
2. Attach the fabric :
Start placing the fabric on the left side of the frame.
Stretch it gently and fix it to the other sides and the bottom using the available pins.
Adjust the clamps on the back of the wooden frame to secure the fabric.
Make sure the fabric is stretched evenly.
3. Design :
- Define the design, size, and color palette before starting.
- Transfer the design onto the fabric using freehand drawing, tracing or projection.
- Make sure the design is clearly visible from the working side of the frame.
4. Load the coil on the frame.
5. Load the yarn into the tufting gun :
Insert the yarn through the first (larger) hole, then through the smaller hole. Secure it in the clip of the gun.
6. Tuft :
Start from the bottom of the fabric moving upwards. Make sure the cutting part is inserted through the canva.
When you reach the top, stop and carefully lift the tufting gun away from the fabric, making sure not to pull or tangle the yarn. At this point, the yarn will have slipped out of the safety clip. Place the yarn back into the clip and return to the bottom of the fabric and continue tufting in the next section.
Use the metal guide (similar to the presser foot on a sewing machine) to control the direction and keep your lines straight.
For a dense and compact result, make the lines very close to each other. For a lighter and more open texture, leave more space between the lines.
7. Glue :
- Cut the fabric
- Add the glue

8. Remove and finish :
Once the glue on the back is completely dry, carefully remove the piece from the frame.
Trim any loose or excess yarn on the front to clean and refine the surface.
If needed, shear the surface to achieve a more even and uniform finish.
